Historic Days and Medieval Knights Are Coming
Start planning ahead for the 31st annual Hoggetowne Medieval Faire, to be held January 28 and 29 and February 3, 4 and 5, at the Alachua County Fairgrounds. On the tournament field, crowds cheer for armored knights amid nine stages of continuous entertainment that feature majestic performances of full-flight falconry, aerial acrobatics, unbelievable magic acts and the popular living chess game.
Visitors can immerse themselves in the colorful atmosphere and see more than 160 talented artisans that travel across the country to sell their traditional works of jewelry, stone and wood carvings, blacksmithing, weaving, hand-blown glassware, leather goods and clothing. Tasty fare includes blooming onions, fresh-baked pastries, sweet potato fries, giant turkey legs, homemade ice cream and succulent ribs.
Kids can also rock back and forth on a sea dragon or spin around on the Barrel of Bedlam on these human-powered push rides. Adults can join in the fun with more than a dozen Old World games such as archery and knife throwing.
