Mosswood Celebrates Anniversary with Tomato Festival
The Mosswood Farm Store will showcase the humble, yet spectacular tomato on July 1 as the calendar notches 10 years since their grand opening. Guests can bring samples of the tomatoes they are growing in the area and tasters will vote on their favorites, to be announced after lunch. To reduce trash, BYO utensils and plates, as well as chairs for seating.
Mosswood’s own Joe Pierce will discuss soil preparation, planting methods and support structures for growing healthy tomatoes from 10 to 11 a.m.; Melissa DeSa, of Forage, will deliver a tomato seed saving tutorial from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; a healthy potluck lunch with a focus on tomatoes and other seasonal garden produce will be served from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m.; Timothy Noyes will talk about the best tomato varieties for Florida gardens from 2 to 3 p.m.; Michele Reaves, of The Fat Tuscan, will share great recipes for cooking with tomatoes from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.; and there will be a garden tour and vision sharing for the development of the Deep South Folk School with Pierce from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
