Affordable Oriental Medicine Options Available Locally

Jun 29, 2018 04:45PM ● By Martin Miron

Although it is open to the public by appointment only, walk-ins are welcome at the Dragon Rises College of Oriental Medicine student clinic, in Gainesville, to make an immediate appointment and be seen if there are any openings. All treatments are supervised by a licensed practitioner.

The initial appointment includes a thorough history of current and past medical conditions. This visit includes a thorough pulse examination, which yields information that guides therapeutic intervention. Pulse diagnosis is a vital tool in Oriental medicine, and Dragon Rises College practices a highly refined form of this art.

These procedures account for the many factors that contribute to an individual’s present medical condition to better understand the disease process from its inception, provide counseling about the effects of lifestyle and initiate the most expedient therapeutic intervention.

The treatments at the clinic include all the major modalities within Oriental medicine—acupuncture, herbal medicine, lifestyle consultation and therapeutic massage. Many patients at the clinic have no previous experience with Oriental medicine, so practitioners carefully explain each procedure.

Patients should allow up to two hours for each treatment, have a light snack or meal before the appointment and wear loose-fitting clothing.

Cost is $35 per visit; $25 for seniors 60 and older, students and veterans. The Dragon Rises College of Oriental Medicine is located at 1000 NE 16th Ave, Building F, in Gainesville. For appointments, call 352-371-2833, ext. 21. For more information, visit
