Integrative Veterinary Medicine at Medicine Wheel

Sep 30, 2019 11:01PM ● By Sheila Mahan

Dr. Shauna Cantwell, owner of Medicine Wheel Veterinary Services, Inc., provides an integrated overview of the health, wellness and athletic performance of horses and companion animals. She brings her training in conventional medicine, pain management, and neurology together with complementary therapies to bring new light to old problems by searching outside the usual constraints of health and medical principles.

She seeks to improve equine performance through acupuncture, chiropractic, postural rehabilitation, hoof and dental balance, nutrition and saddle fit. Cantwell addresses equine illnesses including heaves (COPD or RIA disease) and nonsweating, as well as hormonal issues such as reproduction and Cushing’s.

She knows that integrative medicine can help with many other medical problems affecting horses and other pets. She works with agility dogs, neurologically impaired dogs and animals with debilitating illnesses such as allergies and cancer through nutritional and structural support, acupuncture, chiropractic and complementary holistic therapies.

Cantwell encourages clients to work in conjunction with their conventional veterinarian and other professionals such as trainers, farriers and equine dentists. She prefers to coordinate a team approach for an animal’s well-being and treatment, and practices with a strong emphasis on owner education. The doctor is available for educational and training appointments at shows, barns and homes, and also group lectures and clinics.

Dr. Cantwell’s practice is located at 6998 N. Rte. 27, Ste. 110, in Ocala. For appointments and more information, call 352-538-3021, email: [email protected] or visit
